Though the headteacher is less than impressed This reminded me of Majeika, though Miss Charlotte is not magic per se, she wins her pupils hearts with her unqiue self.

She also helps the students enjoy school and work together more. I found some of the language a little awkward, you can hear that it has been translated at times and a few times I had o reread as some sentences didn't make perfect sense or follow on.

There are also lots of French-Canadian names that my son found unusual but gave us a good talking point as to how names differ around the world.

Home Home. Adjusted Score: Critics Consensus: Jumbled and shallow yet easy to watch, Kaboom is a one-night stand that isn't meant to lead anywhere -- but is fun enough while it lasts.

Directed By: Gregg Araki. Directed By: Philip Kaufman. Critics Consensus: A grim mood piece with good performances from the leads. Directed By: David Mackenzie.

Critics Consensus: Wild Things is a delightfully salacious, flesh-exposed romp that also requires a high degree of love for trash cinema.

Directed By: John McNaughton. Critics Consensus: No consensus yet. Directed By: Walerian Borowczyk. Directed By: Roman Polanski.

Directed By: John Duigan. Critics Consensus: Acted out with both physical and psychological nakedness by its two leads, Intimacy is an unflinchingly honest look at alienation.

Critics Consensus: The Pillow Book is undeniably sensual and visually ravishing, but the film's narrative lacks the hypnotic pull of its imagery.

Directed By: Ken Russell. Critics Consensus: While Paul Schrader's clinical direction and Richard Gere's muted performance don't stir much passion, American Gigolo succeeds as a stylish character study.

Directed By: Paul Schrader. Critics Consensus: The sex may be explicit, but Mitchell integrates it into the characters' lives and serves the whole story up with a generous dose of sweetness and wit.

Directed By: John Cameron Mitchell. Critics Consensus: If it can't quite live up to Nabokov's words, Adrian Lyne's Lolita manages to find new emotional notes in this complicated story, thanks in large part to its solid performances.

Directed By: Michael Haneke. Critics Consensus: Visually striking and aggressively confrontational, We are the Flesh may prove as difficult to watch as it ultimately is to forget.

Critics Consensus: Obsession suffers in comparison to the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece that it mirrors, but director Brian De Palma's unique preoccupations give this thriller its own compulsive, twisted fingerprint.

Directed By: Brian DePalma. Critics Consensus: Confidently campy and played with groovy conviction, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is an exuberant expression of both the hilarity and terror that comes with free love.

Directed By: Russ Meyer. Critics Consensus: Though hard to watch, this film's disturbing exploration of freedom of expression is both seductive and thought-provoking.

Directed By: Stanley Kubrick. Critics Consensus: Boldly transgressive, ambitious, and undeniably flawed, Pola X overcomes its stumbles with palpable passion.

Critics Consensus: The stylish Thirst packs plenty of bloody thrills to satisfy fans of both vampire films and director Chan Wook Park.

Directed By: Park Chan-wook. Critics Consensus: It stumbles into melodrama, but I Am Love backs up its flamboyance with tremendous visual style and a marvelous central performance from Tilda Swinton.

Directed By: Luca Guadagnino. Critics Consensus: A poignant coming-of-age tale marked by a breakout lead performance from Abbie Cornish and a successful directorial debut from Cate Shortland.

Directed By: Cate Shortland. Critics Consensus: A sensual thriller with two engaging performers demanding our undivided attention. Critics Consensus: With arresting visuals and an engrossingly lurid mystery, Dressed to Kill stylishly encapsulates writer-director Brian De Palma's signature strengths.

Critics Consensus: David Lynch's dreamlike and mysterious Mulholland Drive is a twisty neo-noir with an unconventional structure that features a mesmirizing performance from Naomi Watts as a woman on the dark fringes of Hollywood.

Directed By: David Lynch. Critics Consensus: Exploring sexual mores against the backdrop of real-life social upheaval, The Unbearable Lightness of Being artfully blends the political and the erotic.

Critics Consensus: Naturalistic but evocative, Last Tango in Paris is a vivid exploration of pain, love, and sex featuring a typically towering Marlon Brando performance.

Critics Consensus: Its message may prove elusive for some, but with absorbing imagery and a mesmerizing performance from Scarlett Johansson, Under the Skin is a haunting viewing experience.

Directed By: Jonathan Glazer. Critics Consensus: The Untamed attempts some ambitious tonal juggling between fantastical and disturbing -- and draws viewers in with its slippery, inexorable pull.

Directed By: Nagisa Oshima. Directed By: Angela Robinson. Critics Consensus: This emotionally gripping examination of a marriage on the rocks isn't always easy to watch, but Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling give performances of unusual depth and power.

Critics Consensus: Bound's more titillating elements attracted attention, but it's the stylish direction, solid performances, and entertaining neo-noir caper plot that make it worth a watch.

Critics Consensus: Provocative, funny, and brilliantly acted, Venus in Fur finds Roman Polanski in top late-period form.

Critics Consensus: Tender, funny, and touching, The Sessions provides an acting showcase for its talented stars and proves it's possible for Hollywood to produce a grown-up movie about sex.

Macy , Annika Marks. Directed By: Ben Lewin. Critics Consensus: A road movie that's not only sexy, but intelligent as well.

Critics Consensus: Powered by Holly Hunter's main performance, The Piano is a truth-seeking romance played in the key of erotic passion.

Directed By: Jane Campion. Critics Consensus: Kubrick's Lolita adapts its seemingly unadaptable source material with a sly comedic touch and a sterling performance by James Mason that transforms the controversial novel into something refreshingly new without sacrificing its essential edge.

Critics Consensus: Stylish, seductive, and clever, Stephen Frears' adaptation is a wickedly entertaining exploration of sexual politics.

Directed By: Stephen Frears. Critics Consensus: If audiences walk away from this subversive, surreal shocker not fully understanding the story, they might also walk away with a deeper perception of the potential of film storytelling.

Critics Consensus: Like Body Heat, The Last Seduction updates film noir techniques for a modern era, imbuing this erotic film with '90s snark.

Directed By: John Dahl. Critics Consensus: Sexy, smart, and darkly humorous, Stranger by the Lake offers rewarding viewing for adult filmgoers in search of thought-provoking drama.

Directed By: Alain Guiraudie. Critics Consensus: Stylish, sensual, and smart, The Duke of Burgundy proves that erotic cinema can have genuine substance.

Although I whizzed through this book, I loved it throughout and found the mystery concerning who Miss Charlotte was, and where she came from, to be thoroughly gripping and intriguing.

My favourite parts of the book were the illustrations by Tony Ross, which were wonderful and really made the story come alive. I also loved the description of the stories that Miss Charlotte would tell - these parts were so exciting to read and it depicted so well the magical power of storytelling, especially with children!

The ending of the story was so well thought-out and bittersweet and, like any good book, left me wanting more!
